Established in 1868, the University of California was conceived from a vision within the State Constitution. It aimed to contribute significantly, surpassing even California’s gold, to the prosperity and well-being of future generations. Securing funding for education as an international student in the United States can be daunting. Unfortunately, international students are ineligible for federal, state, and university-based need-based financial aid.
For international students, we offer the following recommendations:
- Explore scholarship opportunities from private organizations both in the U.S. and your home country. Consider your background, field of study, and career aspirations as starting points. Look for organizations aligned with your interests and background, then apply for available grants and scholarships.
- Research the specific department you’re interested in by searching on the main Berkeley website for their name. Check for any awards or scholarships they may offer to incoming students.
- Graduate students can explore financial assistance options within their departments, such as Graduate Student Researcher and Graduate Student Instructorships, managed directly by each department. For details about graduate fellowships or external financial aid sources, reach out to the Graduate Fellowships Office.
